A blog, or weblog, is a form of online diary that has taken the internet by storm. It is a way to post news for people to view, whether it be personal news, public news, politics, anything. A blog itself, is made up of entries known as posts, which people post for people to view and comment upon. It is a way for the ordinary person, such as me or you to post how they are feeling about a particular subject.

The way they work is the person who wants to write the blog, makes an account on a site such as this one. They then choose to post a blog post, which is where the information is displayed on the site. When another user comes along and reads that particular blog, they can leave a comment on the topic to create a two way communication between the blogger and the other user. This is how blogs become two way news. When two or more blogs have been posted, they are shown in reverse chronoligical order, so that the latest blog appears at the top.

The origin of weblogging started out in December 1997 by an American Blogger known as Jorn Barger. Barger had his own website, where he would post comments about information on his site. This became known as weblogging, because he saw it as "logging the web".

In May 1999, Peter Merholz took the idea of weblogging, and shortened the name of it to a blog, or blogging.
